Steps In Filing Bankruptcy

Bankruptcy Alternatives ◦ Rebuilding Credit

Experience, knowledge, and confidence in our ability to help our clients enables us to provide an efficient, yet personalized approach to bankruptcy at the Law Offices of Robert H. Gourley Jr., P.A., in Statesville, North Carolina. Contact us to schedule the first of two face-to-face free initial consultations.

At the first consultation, we will both listen, and impart valuable information. You can expect our bankruptcy attorneys to cover the "basics" as we explain your options and dispel common myths about bankruptcy.

In your second free initial meeting with a bankruptcy attorney at the Law Offices of Robert H. Gourley Jr., P.A., we will conduct an in-depth review of your finances, using the detailed worksheet that we provide at your first meeting. We will make a clear presentation of what your case will look like, and what you can expect if you decide to go through with your bankruptcy filing.

Once you choose to retain an attorney at the Law Offices of Robert H. Gourley Jr., P.A., you will pay a filling fee of $274 for a Chapter 13 bankruptcy or $299 for a Chapter 7 bankruptcy. We will agree on a payment plan to cover attorneys' fees. From this point on, you can begin giving your creditors our attorney's name and phone number. Creditors usually stop contacting you directly at this time.

When your bankruptcy documents are ready to sign, your bankruptcy case will begin. The law requires creditors to leave you alone after the signing.

The final formal step is the trustees' meeting. This happens in a courtroom, but it is not a court trial. At this time, we will go to Wilkesboro together to meet with a person appointed by the court to review your paperwork.

Once your bankruptcy is complete, we will advise you on the best ways to rebuild your credit as quickly as possible.
